Six Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Ships Enjoy
Royal Caribbean's
Fireworks Display at Labadee, Haiti
Midnight
December 31, 1999 - January 1, 2000
Kjell T. & Lois A. Evensen
Between 11:30 PM and 11:45 PM on December 31, 1999, Royal
Caribbean's Splendour of the Seas,
Nordic Empress, Monarch of the Seas, and Majesty
of the Seas were joined by two Celebrity
ships off the coast of Labadee, Haiti, to view a spectacular
Royal Caribbean
fireworks display celebrating the new Millennium.
After a quick tour of Deck Ten, we moved to Deck 4 of Splendour
of the Seas.
In the image above, we see the beginning of the fireworks
highlighting the silhouette of Nordic Empress.
Splendour's Captain Per Moen moved our ship forward which
gave us a view
of the island each time fireworks lit the sky.
The show was truly spectacular.
The crowd on Deck Ten above us provided a chorus of "Ooooooo's"
and "Ahhhhhhhh's."
The ships had dimmed their outside lights so the passengers
could see the fireworks more clearly.
You can see dim lights of other ships near the bottom of some
of these images.
Music onboard added to the dramatic effects.
Here you can see trees along the shore of Labadee.
Happy faces in the sky. The pyrotechnics also included
the numerals "2000."
The colors were even more brilliant than could be recorded
here.
Just before the fireworks finale the clock struck midnight.
The ships sounded their
horns as the crowd cheered and the Captain wished us all a Happy
New Year .
