We sailed Jan 5 - Jan 12. We left our home state of PA, and drove to Baltimore, MD Friday evening Jan 3rd and stayed @ the Holiday Inn BWI (not impressed). The reason we stayed here was the ability to leave our car for a week without an extra charge. Everybody & his brother who stayed at the motel that evening must have had early morning flights as they must have had 50 people in the lobby trying to take the shuttle's. Some people ended up calling for taxi service. We flew out using American Airlines, had curb service check in - went exremely faster than inside. We arrived in Miami Saturday morning (went a day ahead not knowing what the weather was going to be during this time of year). We were traveling on a group of about 80 people.  Our "leader" had made prior arrangements for bus service to and from the airport, hotel & port. This made it very simple for "first timers".  From the first step on board to the last step off, I totaaly enjoyed the whole experience.  I am the type of person who "takes things in stride" and looks at anything different as an "Adventure".  I also get my moneys worth.  I read the compass everday - used a hi-lighter to mark the events I wanted to do & carried it and the map of the ship with me every day.

We got up around 8:00 for breakfast, earlier on days we had land excursions and went to bed after the Late shows.  I think the only thing I missed doing was "The Vault" night club (d.j.) I enjoyed the live band in Cleopatra's Needle.

My husband & I had an inside cabin on Deck 8, we found it to be very accomadating for the amount of time we spent in it & because of how dark an inside cabin is, I think I got some of the best sleep in a long time or maybe it just was I was really relaxed when I finally went to bed.

The service was great from our room Steward "Noel" (male), and our Head Waiter, Custudio.  We thought the food was above average, in the Main Dining Room.  We were slightly disappointed when we went to Johnny Rockets. I had my taste buds for their "Apple pi a-la-mode" from reading other posts and when we wnet to order our server told us they were sorry but they were "all out" and it was only Wed. lunch time.  I think the next evening it was offered in the Main dining area and i asked our waither if it was as good as Johnny Rockets or better? And he said" Much better it's my grandmothers recipe." We all laughed.

The one thing I found to be a "little disturbing" was how they handled debarking for land excursions.  When the first group to arrive in the area was left go, the attendants in the area told the next group to hold up at the steps and tell anyone else coming down the steps to stay there. This was all fine and well, however they  keep the elevator coming to that level and of course those people getting off get ahead of those who were already waiting. I mentioned this at the end of the cruise on their survey sheet.

If you can fly American Airlines do so, as they are the only airline with a "check-in counter" right at the port, when you are flying back,if your flight leaves Miami after 1:00.  We would not have known that had our "porter" not asked us, what airline & time we were to leave.  This saved all that hassel prior to the security check at the airport.

I will definately go "Royal" again. As a matter of fact, most of "our group" is looking forward to Alaska in 2004.

Cruise reviews can be extremely helpful to new and experienced cruisers by giving the cruise vacation consumer's view of various RCCL ships and ports. If you've sailed aboard an RCCL ship, we hope you'll write and tell us about it by using our special form here.  Sincere thanks to those who take the time to do this so that others can have the benefit of shared information and experiences.
